Employment Opportunities

Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center (RCPC) is a psychiatric hospital exclusively for children and adolescents. It is operated by the New York State Office of Mental Health, and serves children from the Hudson Valley Region. In addition to its inpatient facility, RCPC has a wide variety of outpatient services, including school-based aftercare programs, day treatment programs, and clinics. These programs are fully integrated with the inpatient service, enabling RCPC to provide a full continuum of care to the children it serves.

The Facility provides an intensive, short-term, family-based inpatient psychiatric treatment program. This enables children to return to their families with a minimum of disruption to the child's ties to home and community. A rapid return from the hospital to the community facilitates the resumption of the child's developmental progress which was interrupted by the onset of difficulties that necessitated hospitalization. At RCPC, treatment focuses primarily upon issues that have led to admission and continued stay in the hospital. Thus, all children require continued treatment upon discharge. RCPC works with families to make available appropriate treatment for the post discharge phase of the treatment program. All discharged children are followed up by the hospital after discharge, and families are encouraged to contact staff immediately with any problems that may develop after discharge. The inpatient treatment program is regarded as simply one phase, although a critical one, in an ongoing treatment process.

RCPC provides a full weekday schedule of treatment activities including school, occupational therapy, recreation therapy, and speech and hearing therapy. The children are assigned to these programs according to their needs. RCPC also provides after-school and evening programs as well as weekend activities.

Patient residential areas are called "cottages." Each cottage has two or three "apartments," with a dorm-style four-bed room, a double room and two singles, and a living room and bath/shower room. Other cottage areas are used for offices, an activities room, a nursing station, and a visiting area.

Community services programs provide psychiatric treatment and support services to children and adolescents in their home communities. They assure quality continuity of care for children discharged from the hospital. These programs include school-based Clinic, Day Treatment, Intensive Day Treatment, and Intensive Case Management programs. Specific services within each program are tailored to the individual needs of the child and family.
