From Upstate NY:

1. Take NYS Thruway (I-87 South) toward New York City.
2. Cross the Hudson River via Tappan Zee Bridge
3. Continue on I-87 South to Bronx border.
4. At the Bronx border I-87 becomes the Major Deegan Expressway
5. Follow Major Deegan Expressway South to Triboro Bridge
6. Follow signs on the Triboro to Manhattan. Stay in the right-hand lane
7. After you go through the toll booth, stay immediately to the right hand lane following signs to Randall's Island/Wards Island. The down ramp for this exit is immediately after the toll booth. If you cross the bridge into Manhattan you've gone too far!
8. Follow road approximately 1 mile. You will pass the Triboro Bridge Authority Building, then the road goes underneath the roadways for the Triboro Bridge. You will see a small blacktop road which connects Randall's Island to Ward's Island. Follow this road. If you pass the NY City Fire Academy you've gone too far.
9. Stay right on this road and you will enter into the Manhattan Psychiatric Center campus of which Kirby is a part. Take your first hard right-hand turn and there will be a guard gate immediately ahead of you. Go through guard gate and follow the road around to the third high-rise building (Kirby Psychiatric Center). It's the one with the double 40-foot chain-link and razor wire fence. Park in the lot and walk to the entrance.
10. At the entrance you will be required to go through a metal detector and search of your belongings.

From Manhattan

1. On the East side of Manhattan follow the FDR Drive North to the Triboro Bridge.
2. Follow signs on the Triboro to Bronx. Stay in the left-hand lane
3. After you go through the toll booth, merge immediately to the left hand lane following signs to Randall's Island/Wards Island. The down ramp for this exit is immediately after the toll booth. If you cross the bridge into Queens or the Bronx you've gone too far!
4. At the bottom of the ramp turn right. Follow underneath the Triboro Bridge approximately 1/4 mile. You will see a small blacktop road which connects Randall's Island to Ward's Island. Follow this road. If you pass the NY City Fire Academy you've gone too far.
5. Follow instructions # 9 and #10 above.

From Long Island/Queens/Brooklyn:

1. Follow signs to the Grand Central Parkway towards the Triboro Bridge (approximately 1.5 miles past Laguardia Airport.
2. Follow signs on the Triboro to Manhattan. Stay in the right-hand lane
3. Follow instructions #7 through #10 above.

Public Transportation:

Take either the #4, #5, or #6 Subway to the 125th Street Station. At the corner of Lexington Avenue and 125th Street take the M35 bus to Randalls/Wards Island. Get out at first bus stop on Wards Island across from the Main Gate for Manhattan Psychiatric Center. Go through Main Gate and follow sidewalk around past the first two high-rise buildings. Kirby will be the third high-rise approximately 1/4 mile from bus stop.
