ABOUT US

Sagamore cares for young people, ages 5 -7, throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island. Our mission is to deliver the best clinical practices in a safe and therapeutic setting.

Treatment teams focus on personal care and discharge planning. Our primary goal is a successful return to the home, school and community.  We provide services regardless of family’s financial resources or immigration status.

SERVICES

Inpatient Treatment
Sagamore PC is an intermediate care facility for children and adolescents with serious emotional and psychiatric disturbances. We accept referrals from community hospitals. The length of stay varies according to individual needs.

Outpatient Treatment
Sagamore PC offers a variety of outpatient treatment and community-based programs.

Family Court Mental Health Services
At the request of a judge, Suffolk County Family Courts provide mental health screenings to children and adolescents involved with court-related matters.

A social worker will make treatment recommendations to the Court and to the family. They will assist with arranging services in conjunction with the Court and the Department of Probation.

Emergency Services
The Crisis/Respite Bed Program is a partnership between public and private agencies in Suffolk County.

  • For young people (ages 5-17) who are at risk of or are currently experiencing an emotional/behavioral crisis
  • Offers temporary (up to 3 weeks) out of home placement
  • Voluntary (both parent and child agree)

Depending on the needs of the individual -- placement will be in the home of a licensed family, group home, or residential setting on Long Island.

The Sagamore Crisis Residence Program serves youth ages 10-17. It is located on the grounds of Sagamore.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Social Work Program
Sagamore has partnerships with the following schools for Master of Social Work field placements:

  • State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook
  • Adelphi University
  • New York University
  • Fordham University
  • Columbia University
  • Applicants from other universities may be considered

(Program available to second year students).

Field Supervisors are licensed social workers who have completed the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) course. Students are placed in a variety of inpatient and outpatient treatment and clinical support programs.

Psychology Externships
Sagamore offers student Externships in Psychology.

Qualifications:

  • Full-time student
  • matriculated in clinical and school psychology program
  • At least two years of full-time graduate study
  • Taken courses in cognitive assessment and projective testing prior to the Externship

Psychology Internships
Sagamore's Psychology Doctoral Internship Training Program provides training in the delivery of clinical services to:

  • children
  • adolescents
  • families

Our Program is an APPIC-member Program.

The Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center Psychology Doctoral Internship Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association.

Review the Admissions, Support and Initial Placement Data

Recreation Therapy
Explore a structured, field-centered internship with a certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

During the internship, students:

  • attend a robust orientation
  • experience Inpatient, Education, and Day Hospital programs
  • work on a multi-disciplinary team
  • carry a caseload of patients
  • complete necessary documentation
  • plan daily activities
  • organize and execute major events.

Internship hours:
Minimum of 560 hours - 14 consecutive weeks; no less than 20 hours/week or more than 45 hours/week.
Internships are available for the Fall, Spring and Summer sessions.
